Grampian Hospitals Art Trust is delighted to present Silence is the Door, a solo exhibition by Azerbaijani-born artist Zibeyda Seyidova, at The Small Gallery, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Foresterhill. Running from 10 February to 30 April, this exhibition brings Seyidova’s meditative abstractions into the daily rhythms of a hospital environment, offering moments of quiet reflection for patients, staff, and visitors alike.

Working between the United Kingdom, Turkey and Azerbaijan, Seyidova is recognised internationally for her austere yet luminous paintings, which explore thresholds of silence, care, and transcendence. Her exhibition in Lyon, Light Embraces Shadow (2022), earned her the Jeune Vague Award in France (2023) in the 2D category. In Aberdeen, her restrained geometries and muted tonal surfaces respond to the architecture of the hospital itself, dissolving into its walls and corridors while simultaneously opening spaces of contemplation.

Grampian Hospitals Art Trust (GHAT) continues to place art at the heart of healthcare, enhancing well-being through professional artistic practice. Silence is the Door is part of this ongoing commitment, situating Seyidova’s work in a context where art becomes both accompaniment and care.

About the Artist

Zibeyda Seyidova (b. 1998, Azerbaijan) is a painter whose practice distils abstraction into a spiritual and philosophical enquiry. Educated at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg, she has exhibited widely across Europe, with recent solo presentations including Light Embraces Shadow (Galerie Cinéma, Lyon, 2022) and Breath of the Hidden(Tatarstan Biennale, Kazan, 2021). Her work has been recognised with the Jeune Vague Award in France (2023), where she was named winner in the 2D category. Through her textured surfaces and austere geometries, Seyidova explores painting as invocation, silence as threshold, and abstraction as a form of care. She lives and works between the United Kingdom, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
