Atticus Art Gallery is pleased to present Reduction Atmosphere, a solo exhibition by London-based artist Anna Viktorova, on view from 14 September to 5 November 2023 at the gallery’s Queen Street location in Bath.
Working at the intersection of ceramics, combustion, and conceptual materialism, Viktorova’s practice confronts the aftermath of heat and the instability of form. In Reduction Atmosphere, she transforms the gallery into a post-kiln environment—an installation that resists containment, resolution, and permanence.
Viktorova employs raku-fired ceramics, carbon residues, and fugitive materials to produce works that are not objects in the traditional sense, but residues of rupture. The title refers to a ceramic firing process in which oxygen is restricted, causing chemical transformations that Viktorova repurposes as conceptual and spatial strategies. The installation is structured not around display, but around proximity to what remains after combustion—vessels that exist in a state of cooled decomposition, unfixed and ongoing.
This exhibition marks Viktorova’s first presentation with Atticus Art Gallery. Her work engages contemporary discourses on grief, memory, and the materiality of collapse, situating ceramics within an expanded field of affective and environmental enquiry.
